Son of Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, Gorō made his directorial debut with the 2006 film Tales from Earthsea, based on the short stories by author Ursula K. Le Guin. More recently, Gorō served as director of From Up on Poppy Hill, which debuted in Japan on July 16, 2011.

Unfortunately, no further details regarding the film are available yet, except that Gorō has confirmed that his father is also working on the project. The next film expected to be released by the studio is said to be based on the ancient Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and directed by Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko).
